 We have been hearing it since we were a kid.  Partially because our parents wanted us to eat it and somewhat because we hated going to doctor and it was an excuse and even a remedy for not going to a doctor.
Though this adage was developed around 19th century, scientists agree that apple has more benefits than were known during that time. So what apple in specific and fruits in general so important and special that it came to the point that “Eat an apple on going to bed, and you’ll keep the doctor from earning his bread.”
It’s the combination.  Though small in size, the apple has so much combined and collected within it yet it still astonishes the scientists. Let us see some one of the chemicals, vitamins and minerals that apple has which can really keep you away from your doctor.

  • Vitamin C: We all know about vitamin C of how it helps in immune and how it is important in healing and preventing bleeding gums. So like oranges, apple too have vitamin see in them making your body resistant to various diseases.
  • Phytonutrients: These include Vitamin A, E and beta carotene. Phytonutrients are known to suppress the activities of free radicals which can cause serious damage to our body plus they have found to have a profound effect on our health preventing diseases like diabetes and asthma.
  • Pectin: Wished to lower the level of “bad cholesterol” or LDL in your body? It is the pectin which will not help the blood pressure and glucose level but also maintains a healthy digestive system and apples being an excellent source of them.
  • Boron: Boron is found in abundance in apples. This mineral plays a vital role in strengthening your bones and making your brain healthier.
  • Quercetin: Last but not the least, this flavonoid helps in preventing and reducing the chances of variety of cancers including colon cancer, prostate cancer and breast cancer in women.
So no doubt one must regularly visit his physician and taking the phrase literally, but the health benefits found in apples can for certainly increase the life span and activeness of your body organs. That’s doctors and nutritionist recommend including variety of fruits in your daily diet. That’s the reason you must make sure you always eat tropical and seasonal fruits, each of them has their own benefits.
